After an emergency church was set up in Tripsrath in 1870, construction of a church began in 1873 based on a plan by Vinzenz Statz from Cologne. On August 8, 1873, auxiliary bishop Johann Anton Friedrich Baudri laid the foundation stone. On April 18, 1876, the church was blessed, on May 30, 1893 was the solemn consecration. The war damage of the Second World War had been repaired by 1953. In 1957 a sacristy was built on the southern wall of the choir. The choir and high altar have been redesigned several times. In 1985 the church was renovated. On January 12, 1997, a fire broke out in the church. The volunteer fire brigade was on the spot quickly and had the fire under control after 30 minutes.
