The parish church towers high above Litzelsdorf and has shaped the image of the community for centuries. A church is said to have stood here as early as 1368.
A small wooden church dedicated to Saint Leonhard originally stood on the Kirchenberg. In 1764 the wooden church was demolished and replaced by a stone building. The Chorherrenstift Vorau donated the high altar.
In 1823 the stone building was demolished and replaced by the present church.
The church is a destination of the "Border Guard Circular Trail".
