There are two gateways to the old town: the main one is Porta Mancianella, so named after a place in the Lucca area currently used with the Pian di Coreglia area. After Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo's visit to Barga, it took the name Porta Reale A in 1787, by which it is better known. The two main thoroughfares depart from it: the Via di Mezzo crosses the entire historic center; Via del Pretorio leads to the cathedral, which the inhabitants of Barghi literally call Il Duomo N.
