The so-called "Keizer Karel legend" that left its mark on Tombeek and is mentioned here states that in 1531, Emperor Karel got stuck in the Laan or in the marshes of the Tombeekheide and was helped by the people of Tombeek.

For this, they received the lands on the Tombeekheide as a reward; this is located south of the Laan and extends into Waver. The lands were officially awarded to the inhabitants of Tombeek in 1784 by the Sovereign Council of Brabant after a disagreement about this between Tombeek and Waver.
