The construction of the church probably began in the 12th century or the 13th century (the name of Carolles appears in a text of 1156), and the foundations of this primitive building are currently kept. The tower was built in the 14th century, the porch in the 17th century, and the nave rebuilt in 1750. The present appearance of the church corresponds to the works of 1933-1934, a period in which the old choir and the old sacristy were destroyed, and the cemetery moved, to accommodate the new influx of vacationers. This construction of the 20th century was carried out in neo-Gothic style with a flat chevet, under the direction of the architect André Cheftel. patrimoine-religieux.fr/eglises_edifices/50-Manche/50102-Carolles/183561-EgliseSaint-Vigor

A very interesting old church that is worth a visit, as is the old cemetery.

The following quote from the French author Victor Hugo (1802-1885) is recorded: "One day, one will see cannons exhibited in museums, as one sees the old instruments of torture now, and one will be amazed that such things could once have been in use." If only this vision of his had already become reality! Then there would be no need for the many 'Monuments aux Morts' with which villages and towns across the country commemorate their inhabitants who lost their lives in war.
