9km from Cervia, like a precious jewel, the Pieve di S. Stefano stands in the center of a countryside planted with grapes and fruit trees, showing off the imposing basilica-style facade according to the High Medieval architectural tradition.

The Pieve is one of the oldest in the province of Ravenna. Its construction could date back to the 10th century, as the first document relating to it dates back to 977 AD, but an even more ancient origin cannot be excluded.

Adjacent to the entrance, a Roman milestone bears witness to an inhabited nucleus of that era and evidence of the passage of an important road in the area, while a fragment of a cross with a blessing hand, "Croce viaria", is inserted in the external wall. memory of the Middle Ages. These crosses were usually placed along the roads to indicate to the Romeos the proximity to a guest house.

On the external facade and on the apse of the church there are instead two plaques, witnesses of the reconstruction and rededication, which took place in 1527, after the Church was almost completely destroyed in 1512.
