Haarby Church, like most Danish village churches, dates from the period of great church building in 1150-1250, but the exact year is not known. It is believed that a church used to stand on the site, as remains of woodwork were found under the foundation.

Haarby Church is also known as Funen's largest village church.

In 1743 a burial chapel for the Trampe family was built in the tower room. Countess Sophie Hedvig Trampe zu Løgismose and her sister and brother are buried behind the beautifully executed wrought iron gate.

A wooden church probably stood in the same place before the stone building. With around 500 seats, Haarby Church is Funen's largest village church. It is built in Romanesque style with beautiful arches and rough boulders. The pulpit bears the year 1618 and shows the four evangelists with their symbols. During the last major restoration in 1975, the altar and the altarpiece were modernized. The place of the organ is unusual.
