In the 14th century, Charles IV had the foundation stone laid for a building that would outshine all other buildings in the area. A typical Gothic church with two towers was built in the 15th and 16th centuries. The famous astronomer Tycho Brahe is buried in the church. In the Teynhof behind the church, merchants had to pay customs duty (ungelt).
