Sunday round: Pumpspeicherwerk Geesthacht - round from Berliner Straße

The pumped storage plant near Geesthacht an der Elbe serves to quickly cover the electricity demand at peak load times and as an emergency reserve in the event of power outages to enable other power plants to restart. The pumped storage power plant went into operation on October 15, 1958 and it is the largest of its kind in northern Germany.
The 3 downpipes of the power plant have a head of around 83 m and each drive a turbine with an output of around 40 MW.
The power plant thus achieves a capacity of approx. 120 MW, which can be reached in approx. 70 seconds after opening the throttle valves.
The reservoir has a total volume of 3,800,000 m³, of which 3,300,000 m³ can be used.
Depending on the fill level of the storage tank, the power plant can supply about 5 hours of energy with fully open throttle valves.
You can reach the reservoir, at the edge of which there is also a 12-meter-high observation tower, via an access on the federal highway 5. If the weather is good, the tower offers a view of Hamburg and Lüneburg.

Lookout tower made of steel mesh, nothing for dogs. But many places to tie the dog down below.
      Great views from up there!

Observation tower at the pump storage basin
Nothing for dogs, as the tower consists of metal lattice stairs. But enough opportunities to tie the dog down. Great view in good weather
