On this heath, the transition from the moraine to the Eem valley is clearly visible. The area is archaeologically and geologically very important. The height differences originated 120,000 years ago in the penultimate ice age. There are some approximately 4,000-year-old prehistoric burial mounds, which protrude above the moor as clearly recognizable green domes. Centuries ago, the wide sandy path, the Oude Postweg, was the most important route to Amersfoort.
