Whether it's "God's halfpipe", "soul launch pad" or the North Sea wave "splashing" onto the dike - the "Church by the Sea" in Schillig has already been a talking point during its construction period.
And not just because, in a time of increasing church desecrations and demolitions, a new church could finally be built, but also because of its sophisticated architecture.
In terms of the exterior, Cologne architects Ilse and Ulrich Königs were tasked with designing a "Church by the Sea", implemented, among other things, by the chosen floor plan in the shape of a cross and a curved glass roof structure in the shape of a wave.
