The Gemünden Maar is the smallest of the three Daun Maars. These are three particularly well-known crater lakes in the Volcanic Eifel region around the town of Daun in Rhineland-Palatinate. They were formed by volcanic explosions approximately 10,000 years ago. The Daun Maars are located in the Volcanic Eifel Nature Park, which covers an area of 970 square kilometers near the Moselle and Ormont on the Belgian border. Numerous hiking trails introduce you to the landscape with its maars and volcanoes. Detailed information about the nature park and its flora and fauna can be found here: nationale-naturlandschaften.de/gebiete/naturpark-vulkaneifel.

The Gemündener Maar is the northernmost of the three Dauner Maars, located in the immediate vicinity of the Daun district of Gemünden and about 1.5 km south of Daun.
The Maarsee is around 325 m long, 300 m wide and a maximum of 38 m deep. With an area of around 7.2 hectares, the 30,000 year old maar is younger than the Schalkenmehrener Maars and the smallest of the three Dauner Maars.
Very nice hiking trails around the lake and lots of nature. Great.
