Steam pumping station Cruquius from 1849 is one of the three pumping stations with which the Haarlemmermeer was pumped dry between 1849 and 1852. It is the largest steam engine in the world. It is a national monument. In the 19th century, 800 kilograms of coal per hour were needed to pump 800 million cubic meters of water from Haarlemmermeer and thus create the current polder. The best thing about the Cruquius Museum is the demonstration of the moving balance arms that protrude from the building. (Museum card is valid.)
