Thor Central

Beautiful place to take a nice walk on the roof of the mine, where the Black gold used to be brought up. Much respect to the miners.

This is, as the name suggests, more or less the central building of the Thor site and, importantly, nearby is Parking 1, the start of the walking routes, a small park with a pond and some catering, including cozy outdoor seating in good weather (Thor Terrazza). You can also reach the other old mine buildings in a jiffy. Thor Central itself is located in the former main building of the mine site. You can't just visit it inside because there are several rooms for receptions, events and the like. However, in July and August you can follow a free experience tour in the building from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 15:30, more about that here: thorcentral.be/nl/fotoshoots Also in the building: a brasserie and restaurant (Partaasch and Lampada), rental/sale of steps and childcare. For the hikers: Thor Central is not only the starting point for hikes to the slag heaps, from the site they are also developing the nature reserve Stiemervallei at a rapid pace because the Stiemerbeek originates here. And of course there is also the industrial heritage and the new infrastructure where they are building many cycle paths.
