Nice resting place in a clearing in the middle of the Hainich with historical background. Already in the year 1100 travelers were fed by the Antonius Brotherhood.

If you hike or cycle along the entire length of the Rennsteig, you will meet the Antoniusherberge near Kammerforst halfway along the route. Today only the location of the Antoniusherberge on the crest of the Hainich, on the old road from Kammerforst to Mihla, indicates a hostel.

        Historical:
In 1095, Henry IV, who had been emperor since 1087, left the order "Brotherhood of Hospitals of St. Antonius" with a considerable proportion of forest and fields. The Antonius brothers built the "Eilfelden" (Ihlefeld), the "Cammerbühl" (Reckenbühl) estate and the Antoniusherberge in the immediate vicinity, where the Kurmainzische messengers were able to find rest and accommodation. After the monastery brothers were expelled by Landgrave Friedrich II in 1346, the abandoned courtyard was converted into a public inn in the middle of the 14th century.
It is said that it was in September 1568 when Mihla residents burned down the 468 year old building. The last innkeeper was Claus Viescheringk from Waltershausen. The latter had certainly exaggerated the robberies he had carried out and also caused robbery to occur. For this he received a quick neck dish of the Lords of Hopfgarten and Nazza residents on the nearby “gallows bank”.
