It is a member of the rampart system that surrounds the city from the south. It is surrounded on the outside by a moat. The two smaller members of the Komárom fortress system, the Csillagerőd and the Igmándi fortress, are less well known to the general public. The old castle on the other side of the Danube, as well as the Palatine line, can be visited again after several decades. The Csillagerőd was built in 1586 under the name of St. Peter's Palisade, due to the shape of a four-pointed star. It was rebuilt between 1850-70, at which time it gained its final form. It is less known that the Star Fortress became an ammunition depot in 1938, together with the old castle of Komárom, and after Germany invaded Poland, some Polish refugees received temporary shelter here. After the Arrow Cross takeover in October 1944, the Star and Igmánd Fortress became an internment camp; thousands of Jews and Gypsies were sent from here to extermination camps. After the Second World War, emergency flats were built in it, later it became the property of the local ÁFÉSZ and the company used the premises of the fortress as a vegetable warehouse. After the change of regime, the Hungarian state bought back the facility and since 2005 the Csillagerőd is a monument that can be visited. In 2014, it was decided to renovate it, for which the Hungarian state will allocate HUF 6.6 billion. After the renovation, the sculpture park in the warehouse of the Museum of Fine Arts will be located in the premises of the fortress, which will show the period from antiquity to the Renaissance. In addition to the renovation of the building complex, new museum spaces will also be created. In September 2019, the renovated fortress was handed over. hu.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kom%C3%A1romi_er%C5%91drendszer#Csillager%C5%91d
