The parish of Großsteinhausen, newly established in 1729, originally consisted of only two villages: the parish of Großsteinhausen and the neighboring community of Kleinsteinhausen. For this reason, it is also referred to as the "Steinhausen Parish." Only later was the parish expanded to include two additional villages and several farms and mills. Thus, during the French Revolution (1789-1799), Riedelberg, previously a branch of the Walschbronn parish, became part of the Großsteinhausen parish. In 1839, Bottenbach was also incorporated into the parish.

On July 19, 1845, the contract for the construction of the Catholic parish church in Großsteinhausen was awarded at the chancellery of the Großsteinhausen mayor's office,

in the presence of Mayor Hüther and District Building Inspector Hertter von Zweibrücken.

The parish church of St. Cyriakus Großsteinhausen today serves as the liturgical center for the Catholics of the parishes of Großsteinhausen, Kleinsteinhausen, and Bottenbach.

Saint Cyriakus, after whom the church is named, is considered the patron saint against frost and bad weather—particularly venerated in the wine-growing regions of the Palatinate.

Saint Cyriacus is said to protect against frost and bad weather, which is why he soon became the patron saint of winegrowers throughout the wine-growing regions, especially in the Palatinate.
