Federico Piantieri, born in Cannicchio on June 11, 1840 and died in Acciaroli on August 25, 1872, was a distinguished scholar of the amiable Cilento land, also a passionate researcher and Vico scholar, sensitive mind and inclined to study the language of his native country. Careful thinker and observer who thought he was writing for love and not for science: “..Love and not science makes me write..”. A valuable and lively intellect of the Acciaroli navy, who lived briefly, up to a little over thirty years, in the second half of the 19th century when Positivism was establishing itself as a consequence of the historical time, of capitalist development and of the increasingly widespread process of European industrialization. In Southern Italy it was thanks to Federico Piantieri that the first publication on Sandor Petofi, the most famous intellectual of the era of the Hungarian Risorgimento, took place; most translated poet in the whole world and who really liked popular songs in Italy. Piantieri, in 1868, published more than one hundred lyrics in Naples. Then followed other intellectuals of the time who translated some poems by Petofi, we remember the Sicilians Tommaso Cannizzaro, Camillo Sapienza and Giuseppe Calati. We want to remember him by proposing one of his letters on the issue of the Cilento dialect. So much can be read from the plaque in his memory, placed at the entrance of his solitary residence in the Acciarolese marina: "Cared in the cradle by the spirit that inflamed the genius of Giambattista Vico.
