Road cycling
Nice, very flat, ride along the towpath of the Erewash Canal. This canal is a dead end (finishes at Langley Mill) so not much boat traffic meaning that the water is often very clear. The towpath is a reasonable surface made of crushed stone. Care needed to avoid some walkers although not too busy.

Be careful from Langley Mill to Shipley Gate. The towpath is very muddy and quite narrow in places. Half way between the two there was a tree down which completely blocked off the canal but I was able to push through on the towpath.

Smooth surface with occasional root bumps. Easily rideable on any bike.
