"Neizenbron" a fief from the Fulda Abbey to the Counts of Rieneck

In 777, Charlemagne gave the Fulda Abbey the extensive district of the Hammelburg March, which extended as far as the Reußenberg, Weyersfeld, Aschenroth, Hurzfurt and the Scharfritz in what is now the Gemünden district. In the description of the boundary of the district, a well ("Inde in theo teofun clingun unzi themo brunnon" - from there to the deep cliff and to the well) is mentioned, which can be found at the Neutzenbrunn estate. This well is likely to have given the emerging settlement its name. The noun "Neizen" is probably derived from a proper name, perhaps that of the first landowner unknown to us, because the Middle High German "neizer", equivalent to oppressor or persecutor, makes little sense here.
