The striking historic building was once the residence of the Fugger family in the silver town of Schwaz.

In the Middle Ages, the Fugger family from Augsburg brought tons of silver from the mines in Schwaz. Among other things, the Fuggers became rich with the silver from Schwaz! Anton Fugger built a house in Schwaz to manage his silver mining activities - the Fuggerhaus.

It still stands today and can be viewed from the outside. The tertiary school sisters are now accommodated in the very well-preserved house. Where the rich Fugger used to live, the poorest in the city are helped in the tea room today. The facade with the larger towers on the two corners of the house and the small bay windows in the middle of the house is very magnificent.

        Fugger House, Schwaz

The Fugger House was built between 1522 and 1525. Construction of the trading post, designed in the style of a Tyrolean aristocratic residence, was overseen by his nephew, Ulrich Fugger the Younger, who is commemorated by a bust beneath the left oriel window. The Augsburg merchant family was active in Schwaz for approximately 170 years. For two years, this building served as their headquarters. Schwaz's silver and copper played a significant role in European history. Today, the building houses a tea room and is the residence of the Third Order Sisters.
