The roundhouse built between 1929 and 1931 stood empty after the end of the steam locomotive era in the mid-1970s and fell into disrepair. The current owners acquired the engine shed from Deutsche Bahn in 2005. The restoration and conversion was carried out according to the plans of the architects RKW. The conversion was supported by Mayor Joachim Erwin and the City of Düsseldorf.

In September 2006, the Classic Remise on Harffstraße was opened.
