The approximately 3625 km ² large peninsula Valdés (Spanish Península Valdés) is located in the department of Biedma the Argentine province of Chubut on the Atlantic coast.

It is a nature reserve and was put on the World Heritage List by UNESCO in 1999. The Península Valdés consists mostly of barren landscape and some smaller salt lakes, the largest of which forms the deepest point of the peninsula at 35 meters below sea level.

Of particular importance is the peninsula because of the marine mammals that frolic on their shores and off their shores. These are coastal sea lions and elephant seals. The southern Gulf of Nuevo, formed by the peninsula and a headland of the Patagonian mainland, is the habitat of the southern cape. This baleen whale comes here in the second half of the year to reproduce and give birth to their young, as the waters in the Gulf are calmer and warmer than on the open sea. In the open sea, off the coasts of the peninsula, live killer whales (orcas).
