Less than three kilometers from Bagnoles de l'Orne in the Ferté-Macé forest massif stands an immense oak tree, three hundred years old. The Hippolyte oak is the oldest oak tree in the Andaines forest and without a doubt the most imposing. It stands in the middle of a plot planted with beech and spruce.

The 30-meter-high tree has a circumference of 5.26 m to 1.30 m from the ground. This popular oak tree is nicknamed Hippolyte in tribute to the former forest ranger Hippolyte Foinet who restored the tree in the early 20th century.
