The Icon Trail is divided into a western and an eastern section. Both are decorated with small icons that revive a typical regional tradition. The hike on the Icon Trail takes you along the Waldnaab Valley and through very lovely, secluded forest areas.

Actually a circular path past 18 icons (trees to which wooden boxes with images of saints are attached).

Icons are actually cult images of the Eastern churches. However, trees to which wooden boxes with images of saints, the Mother of God or Jesus Christ are attached have a long tradition in our area. The reason for the design of these "image trees" was often vows, but also the desire to encourage as many people as possible to pray and thus worship God and the saints.

The teacher Rudolf Pilz from Neuhaus has revived this forgotten custom and designed the path with his 4th grade class over a period of 2 years.

The icons are replicas of old icons of the Russian and Greek Orthodox Church from the 11th to 16th centuries. There are 18 image boxes to discover along a forest road, 300 to 400 meters apart, over a length of 4.6 km. For better orientation, the picture boxes on the side are numbered. The path can be easily walked in two circular routes of 5 km each. It is also suitable for children and cyclists.
