In 1863, Willem Geukens became the pastor of Leut and saw it as his life's work to build an even larger church. Herman Jaminé was the architect. The church was built on the plot opposite the old church and was the work of the castle's lords, the Vilain XIIII family, who were also the largest lenders.
The new church was built in 1875-1876 in the neo-Romanesque style. It is a brick cross basilica with marlstone elements. The protruding west tower with an octagonal spire between four gables is flanked by a semicircular stair tower. On the north side there is a chapel for the Vilain XIIII family with a stained glass window with a coat of arms and a family motto: vilain sans reproche.
The church furniture dates mostly from the time the church was built: the second half of the 19th century. It is designed in the neo-Romanesque style. The pulpit, on the other hand, dates from 1700 and is designed in the Baroque style.

The Roman Catholic Sint-Petruskerk in Etten-Leur is a neo-Gothic cruciform basilica with two church towers with octagonal tops, completed in 1889 according to a design by P. J. van Genk. The church is classified as a Rijksmonument.

The church was consecrated in 1889. It has a three-aisled nave. The south-facing choir has a five-sided end. Two side chapels and a sacristy are attached to it.
