The Friedensbrunnen - formerly Kaiserbrunnen - was built in 1911 to commemorate the construction of a central water pipe in Daun, which was supported by Kaiser Wilhelm II. After World War II, the bronze relief with the emperor's head was removed and replaced by the Latin inscription "Pax Optima Rerum" (Peace is the best of all things or Peace is the greatest of goods). The inscription commemorates those who died in the Daun district during World War II.
Vigils and demonstrations for peace also take place from time to time at the Friedensbrunnen.
