The monastery estate of Marienstein was a separate community until it was incorporated into Nörten-Hardenberg in 1928. The first mention was in 1055 when Archbishop Lippold of Mainz gave a Marienkapelle to the monastery of St. Peter zu Nörten.

After a long history, the Benedictine monastery was destroyed in 1626 except for the Romanesque crypt of the church, which is still preserved today. Today's buildings were rebuilt later (18th century) and have belonged to the monastery chamber of Hanover since 1650. Today's church dates from 1724. The monastery property is now used by the Georg-August University of Göttingen as a test facility for agricultural economics and agricultural technology. The church is used by the evangelical community. Unfortunately I couldn't find any regular opening hours.
