    Feurstein House, Dornbirn
The Feurstein House was built in 1611 on the site of a medieval predecessor and expanded in the 18th century.

Until the 19th century, it housed the "Adler" inn. The house was named after the merchant Raimund Feurstein (1835-1900). During renovations in 1897, the Neo-Renaissance decorative paintings were added, giving the building its current appearance. The pitched roofs, designed to protect the windows, lend the house a bourgeois character.

      Feurstein-Haus - beautiful facade - monument protection - market place - Dornbirn - Vorarlberg - AT
      -------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------
The Feurstein-Haus (sometimes incorrectly referred to as the Feuerstein-Haus) is a listed building in the center of the Austrian city of Dornbirn. The house is located directly on the market square in the city center and, with its richly painted facade, is one of the most striking buildings in the town centre. The Johann-Luger-Haus is structurally connected to the Feurstein-Haus, although it was built later instead of the former barn of the Feurstein-Haus. The Feurstein-Haus itself faces the parish church of St. Martin and is ornamentally painted. It was built on the same site in 1611 in place of a previous medieval building and expanded in the 18th century. In the meantime, the Gasthaus Adler was based in the centrally located building in the 19th century. However, the Feurstein House got its name from the merchant Raimund Feurstein, who ran a shop in the building on the market square in the 19th century.

The characteristic Neo-Renaissance painting that characterizes the current facade of the Feurstein-Haus was created in the course of a renovation in 1897. Adhesive roofs to protect the windows give the building a bourgeois appearance. The building was last restored in 1951 and 1981. Today, the Feurstein-Haus again houses a shop on the ground floor, which has opened its shop windows to the market square.
