The area originally belonged to the Counts of Frontenhausen, who were first mentioned in a document around 1100. From around 1180 they used the newly built castle of Teisbach by Count Heinrich von Frontenhausen as the seat of their county. The castle was placed above an Isar crossing and on an old salt road.
