This pumping station was built in 1896. It was a steam pumping station. This means that the pumping station was powered by a steam engine. There was also a pumping station here before 1896, but that was washed away by a dike breach. The pumping station is still used today to keep an area of no less than 10,000 hectares dry. However, this is no longer powered by steam: the pumping station is now automated.
