In any case, the title was mentioned by the pope in documents in the 14th century and thereby legitimized. Gerlach Schulte (1375-1410) was the first abbot to bear the title Archabbot (Archiabbas - First Abbot). He came from a wealthy aristocratic family and, through foresight, ensured the increase in the monastery's wealth, including through leased land in the Old Country, which was further cultivated through his commitment.
