Filial Church of the Assumption of Mary (Frauenkirche)

Construction of the church began in 1454. It was founded by Knight Martin I of Wildenstein, probably the most important representative of the famous family, whose ancestral castle was in the district of the same name in Dietfurt. Originally Gothic, the Frauenkirche was given a Baroque makeover in 1748 and re-consecrated on June 17, 1752.
The nave is closed on two sides to the west. To the east of the nave is the recessed choir, closed on three sides. The interior of the choir is covered with a pointed vault. The nave has a flat roof on the inside. The originally higher tower was destroyed by a strong storm in 1744. The tower was rebuilt in its current form in the same year. It is built on a square floor plan, the top octagonal storey of which houses the bell tower. On top of this sits a hood that leads into an open lantern.
The most impressive feature of the high altar is the magnificent group of figures in the altar shrine, which was created by Georg Waller in 1767: Mary is enthroned on clouds, her right hand around the Christ child, who is standing on the blue sphere of the universe surrounded by stars.

The pulpit from 1702 with the symbols of the four evangelists is also worth mentioning.

The gravestones on the back wall of the church also deserve attention. The most interesting of these is the Renaissance gravestone of the Dietfurt pastor Johann Mercl (+ 1587) with the knee piece of a priest blessing the chalice. It still clearly shows the motifs from the workshop of the important Renaissance sculptor Loy Hering from Eichstätt. Until the renovation in 1979, the gravestones were set into the floor of the church.

In the towering tower of the Frauenkirche, two small bells from the 15th and 18th centuries hang in a historic wooden bell cage, which are still rung by hand today.
