Hiking
The 20.1 m high tower was the last in a long series of lighthouses built in Germany from prefabricated steel elements (tubbing) of the Isselburger Hütte. The tower carries the upper fire for the southern driveway and the beacon for the northwest driveway to the Helgoland port facilities.
The Unterfeuer is a 10 m high steel pipe mast, about 120 meters south of the lighthouse in the Watt.
Both beacons have been preserved several times, most recently in June 2007.

Hiking
The red and white striped tower is 120 m away from the lower light. It was built in 1936 by the Isselburger Hütte from prefabricated iron parts (tubbings) on a round concrete base on the south beach of the island of Dune.
The lighthouse was modernized in 1953 and has been remotely controlled from Heligoland since 1982. The leading light line is used for the southern approach to the small island of Dune, east of Heligoland.
