On the grounds of the manor of Großropperhausen, the Gutshof Academy offers Sinnsuchern and Sinnstiftern seminars and creative breaks, trainings and coaching. The ensemble was extensively restored a few years ago and today invites visitors to a newly built guest house, whose rooms were inspired by monastic rites. Opening hours: goo.gl/maps/XkRLS8cJ91u

A “Ropperhausen Castle” was mentioned for the first time as early as the 13th century. Ever since Lieutenant General Hans Ludwig von Baumbach bought the property in 1699, it has remained in the hands of the family. The associated courtyard was renovated and fortified from 1706 to 1724; it replaced the old castle. To this day, the squire has an eye on everything from his manor house: the tenant house, the clock house and the large stables are arranged around the large courtyard. A massive stone wall surrounds the picturesque ensemble, which looks like a small village from some perspectives. Until the middle of the 20th century it was the town's main employer, and to this day it is the largest baroque estate in Hesse.
