In the middle of the large market square is the Petrusbrunnen, which was built at the beginning of the 17th century and shows St. Peter with the key to heaven.
Originally, the fountain saint faced east. When the conversion of the fountain became necessary in 1836, the residents of the west side demanded that St. Peter should now be turned towards them. A heated argument broke out in which no amicable settlement could be reached. The Höchstadt district judge was called to arbitrate, who then quickly ordered that the fountain saint should not be allowed to face east or west in future, but to the south. Because of this quarrel, St. Peter still faces the road to the south to this day.

Since 1715 a tube well is attested for the market place in key field. The corresponding Latin inscription is on the base of the statue of Peter: "Fons hic emanans fuit aidificatus in anno 1715" , in English: "The fountain bubbling here was built in 1715."
