Galatina is located in central Salento, about 20 km from Lecce. It is a city of art and culture, with a Baroque-style historic center and the famous basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria. It is also known for the phenomenon of tarantism and every year on the anniversary of Saints Peter and Paul, on June 29, the ancient therapeutic ritual is recalled with the tarantatas who dance the tarantella to the sound of violin and tambourine.
