In 1500 Prince Alexander Jogailaitis donated the estate and brewery in Rieste to the Vilnius Chapter. It is assumed that the wooden chapel in Riese was built by priest Martynas of Dušniki at the beginning of the 16th century. At the end of the 17th century the chapel was built by the chapter. It is believed to have fallen into disrepair or burned down in the early 18th century (not mentioned in 1744).

Kazimieras Pliateris built a chapel on the Kalno Riese estate in 1776. Monks from Verkiai came to celebrate services. In 1878 the tsarist authorities approved the register of chapels and allowed the vicar of Verkiai to hold daily services in Rieste. In 1903, the owner of the Rieste manor asked the Vilnius governor for permission to repair the chapel, where services had not been held for five years. In 1925 a parish was founded.
