Monument to the Imperial II Sailor Division:
Two sailor divisions were responsible for training the maritime personnel of the Imperial Navy, in which general maritime and infantry training was given.
The 1st Sailor Division was stationed in Kiel on the Baltic Sea, the 2nd in Wilhelmshaven on the North Sea.
The main barracks of the 2nd Sailor Division, which no longer exists, was located in Wilhelmshaven in the area of today's Hannoversche Straße, formerly Ostfriesenstraße.
Even before 1914, a memorial was erected there for the soldiers of the 2nd Sailor Division who fell and died in the line of duty.(Source: denkmalprojekt.org)
