Easy circular walk to the castle ruins Scharnstein. From the pasture, hike slightly uphill to Tießenbachtal. Here is also the starting point for hikes to the Hochsalm or Windhagkogel. After the last parking lots, a steep staircase leads over more than 200 steps up to the castle ruin. Easier and less strenuous it goes along the forest road up to the remains of the castle. From the castle you can enjoy a beautiful view of Scharnstein. Stone steps still lead up from the castle ruin up to the Mitterturm, which also belonged to the fortification of the former castle. So far children can be taken safely. The further rise behind the castle to a lookout cliff, however, is unsuitable for children and the climb requires surefootedness and freedom from giddiness. From the ruins, a hiking trail leads back to the starting point without difficulty.

Scharnstein ruins - wander through history

This beautiful vantage point can either be reached via approx. 260 steps, past the Wagner chapel built into the rocks or, more comfortably, via a forest road but also via a meadow and forest path. A detour to the Mitterturm (view of Scharnstein, Bräumauer) is also worthwhile.
