Glücksburg Castle was built between 1582 and 1587 by Johann the Younger, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein. It is one of the most important residences in Northern Europe.

Today it belongs to the Glücksburg Castle Foundation, a foundation of our family whose purpose is to preserve and present this unique cultural asset to the public.
Traditionally we want to show you a living and inhabited house so that you can experience history and culture. In addition to paintings, porcelain and furniture, our unique tapestries from the 17th and 18th centuries are testaments to this eventful history. I would like to draw particular attention to the King of the Danes, Christian IX. He is nicknamed the "father-in-law of Europe" because his children left their mark on various European royal houses. We are dedicating an exhibition to him. Children can look forward to a special experience in our fairytale world.

The Rosarium Glücksburg was designed in 1990 - 1991 by the rose specialist Ginger J. Jensen and the Hamburg landscape architect Günther Schulze on the grounds of the former castle gardening of the well-known moated castle Glücksburg. Right next to the castle garden you will find over 500 cultivated varieties of roses on an area of around 1.5 hectares. These include historical and modern varieties, climbing and wild roses, as well as a large collection of English roses. The center of this fragrant landscape park is the former gardener's house.

Beautiful moated castle and lovely path around the lake.
      Worth a visit.
