A rough gravel path, which partly leads through a river bed, leads to the beginning of the Tasman Glacier Tongue. Due to recent massive landslides, the path currently ends here (January 2020). Thus, an ascent to Ball Hut and Caroline Hut is currently not possible and the further circular route via the Ball Pass is also not passable.

A great opportunity to have the huge Tasman Glacier to yourself and, above all, to experience it up close! With a little more than 1 hour walk to this point (about 220hm & 5km) a recommendable half day tour. Just follow the Ball Hut Track signs.
