Today's Havel-Oder waterway is essentially the waterway that was opened on June 17, 1914 under the name Berlin-Stettin shipping route from Plötzensee to Hohensaaten. At the inauguration, Kaiser Wilhelm II immediately renamed it the Hohenzollern Canal.
