One of the secondary exits of the abbey was located along the north side. Through here one could reach an important part of the fields or estates. That is why a high and wide gate was needed to allow the often heavily loaded wagons to enter. The gate was originally equipped with a drawbridge over the moat that closed off the abbey on this side. The gutter-shaped iron supports in which the bridge's axis revolved can still be seen about half a meter above the ground. Initially the road level was much higher.

Gate on P. Alberdingk Thijmlaan, which can be reached via the Kloosterdijkpad. The gate dates from the seventeenth century and was previously equipped with a drawbridge. You can still see preserved ironwork on the gate and remnants of a moat. More information can be found on the information boards on site. Adjacent walls are made of iron sandstone. Once through the gate, you first encounter the (former) farm buildings, brewery, and bakery.
