The Constitution Square is located in the heart of the old town and was for centuries one of the most important points of the city of Donostia-San Sebastián. Once upon a time there was the town hall (the building is now the central city library) and was an important meeting place for locals for many festive occasions.
Today, however, the square is still the center for many events and celebrations. Every year, from the balcony of the former town hall, the municipal flag is hoisted to officially open the festival of San Sebastián. It also hosts many important cultural performances and activities of the city.
