An ancient mouth hole, dug before 1820. "Dent up" is miners' language and means "made a pit". So before 1820, this tunnel was painstakingly built into the mountain by hand using simple tools.
"Mutloch" is the name for the opening of the tunnel at the surface.
Here the water flowed through thick pipes to the water wheels in the Maassen artificial shaft at a depth of 460m.
At this point you can also see parts of the old tailings pond in front of the mouth hole.
