De Grote Putting is one of the few real old land areas that Zeeland still has. The area is located in the Grote Hengstdijkpolder, which was already reclaimed before 1161. This makes it one of the oldest areas in the region. De Putting is a low-lying meadow area and consists of many small plots bordered by winding ditches and ditches. In earlier times, peat was dug out of the subsoil here, which partly explains the 'hollow' character of the grassland. In the summer months, the Putting is mainly an area for meadow birds, such as lapwing, black-tailed godwit and avocet. In the winter months, it is mainly large groups of white-fronted geese, greylag geese and Canada geese that visit the area.
