The name is somewhat misleading, as it was originally a monastery founded around 992 AD, which existed until 1525 and was destroyed in the Peasants' War. The Laurentius Church, which stands on the former monastery grounds, dates back to this time.
It is now also a stamping point for the accompanying booklet for the Harz hiking badge Huy-Fallstein.
