Unfortunately the chapel was locked. But from the chapel hill you have a beautiful view of the lake.

Located on the shores of Lake Longemer, the small chapel was built around 1449 by the Dames Canonesses de Remiremont in order to perpetuate the memory of Bilon, officer of Gérard d'Alsace.

In 1056, Bilon, who became a hermit, erected an oratory and a cell on a hillock on the left bank of the lake.

      - Having fallen into ruin, the chapel was rebuilt in 1727 and dedicated to Saint-Florent, bishop of Strasbourg.

A vault containing a skeleton and a chain was discovered there in 18301.

      - The chapel became the property of the commune of Xonrupt-Longemer in 1956. The mound on which it stands at the edge of the lake is called "Butte Bilon".

The upper part of the chapel is covered with wooden cladding. In the region, small spruce planks split into the grain of the wood called "essis" are made by hand. This technique uses wood for long-lasting efficiency and solidity to insulate against rain and cold.
