The municipality of Graun with around 2,430 inhabitants is located at the border triangle of Italy, Austria and Switzerland. Graun is known for its Romanesque church tower, which protrudes from Lake Reschen and makes anyone who drives by curious about its history. Because the bell tower, which dates back to the distant year 1355, bears witness to the fact that there must have been a village here once.
The last residents of Alt-Graun were forcibly evacuated a few days before the Resia Lake was dammed in 1950. For a dam shortly after the end of the Second World War, the Reschensee and the Graunersee were to be dammed by 22 meters - the citizens are said to have had no say. 677 hectares of land were flooded in 1950, 163 houses were blown up, Graun sank under water.
The "new" Graun settles today on the shore of Lake Reschen.

Very popular photo motif in Lake Reschen and always surrounded by crowds.

The small town on Lake Reschen offers a good tourist infrastructure because of the lost church tower. It's worth taking a little break here!

Probably the most famous photo motif in South Tyrol: the church tower of the village of Alt-Graun, which is submerged in Lake Reschen.
